The Tanner lab seeks to understand enzyme structure, function, and mechanism using complementary structural, biochemical, biophysical, and computational approaches, including X-ray crystallography, small angle X-ray scattering, electron microscopy, site-directed mutagenesis, enzyme kinetics, and molecular dynamics simulations. Current research interests include proline metabolism, aldehyde dehydrogenase superfamily enzymes, structure-based chemical probe discovery, substrate channeling, flavoenzymes, and the molecular consequences of disease-associated genetic variants.
